Voice of Nature

Jacqui Stearn’s workshop, on creative writing inspired by Data, produced a powerful collective sonnet, responding to the Biodiversity Stripes data visualisation, reproduced below:

Facing the grey

Notice how we might fade
Sap, sunshine, canopied calm, turgid gloom
When do we reach our limit?
Killed by data and us. Soft moth sadness.
Loss of nature is when we see the light
Is there hope? The lights and darks leave me… curious
Our inability to care causes decay
Feeling the force of fluttering fading
Greed, feel, synergy, pollution, awareness, bee nature
We caught twenty four types of moth in a TRAP
Green to grey is a bad SATURATION
Care for nature or the world will be dark
Let’s halt the move from verdant to jaundice
Galvanise our hearts to natures poultice.
